I thought you might be interested in the story below regarding new security tactics being deployed at certain airports – random hand swabs to check for explosive residue.

Travelers using the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport are getting yet another new wrinkle in their security screening – a random swipe of the hands to check for explosive residue.

Travelers using the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport are getting yet another new wrinkle in their security screening – a random swipe of the hands to check for explosive residue.

The random tests, which are done both at security checkpoints as well as inside concourses as passengers board planes the gate, started locally this month. Transportation Security Administration officials say they have only had about six positive tests so far – all of which turned out to be false alarms.

“I wouldn’t want to put all our trust in these new technologies, but we have to keep changing the game on the bad guys,” said Asa Hutchinson, former DHS undersecretary for border and transportation security, who now works as a private security and legal consultant in Arkansas. “We’ve got to keep them off guard, and this is another way of doing it.”

I also agree with comment above. I was traveling out of the Atlanta, Georgia airport when this happened to me as well. I read they do this based off of profiling so I find this incredibly embarrassing and useless. Out of a sea of foreigners and random men I guess my middle age house mom look was very threatening. Just really takes the joy out of going on vacation these days. At the same time my travel companion from Malaysia goes thru without any problems and wearing a crap load of metal and gold necklaces. I just don’t know anymore what to make of this. What’s next blood, urine and hair samples???? WTF
