The United States and allies are focusing on the imminent terrorist threat from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria now, but they shouldn’t take their eye off of al-Qaeda even though its leader Ayman al Zawahiri has been quiet for months, an expert Atlantic Council panel said recently. The last time Zawahiri spoke was last September when he announced the formation of a branch or franchise in the Indian subcontinent, they said during the April 2 discussion at the Washington, D.C. think tank.
