Steve Serrao blogs about issues related to fusion centers, law enforcement information sharing, intelligence management and compliance issues. Serrao served as Captain in the New Jersey State Police for 25 years where his work included efforts in the homeland security, counterterrorism and intelligence arenas.

Over the years, Serrao developed expertise in computer/information technology and in the field of intelligence and investigation. In his last three assignments with the NJSP, Serrao was engaged in homeland security and counterterrorism efforts, as well as using and deploying information technology to combat criminal activity.

Serrao also served as Assistant Director of Operations at the New Jersey Office of Counter-Terrorism. In this position, he oversaw the statewide investigation of all matters related to terrorism. These ranged from general tips and leads reported by the public and local law enforcement to complex covert counterterrorism investigations.

He also supervised the State Police detachment to the Newark and Philadelphia FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. There, he worked with the U.S. intelligence community regarding intelligence on terrorists and support cells operating in or affecting New Jersey.

Serrao is currently Director of Product Management, Americas Region for the Memex solutions team at SAS. He works with law enforcement agencies and intelligence fusion centers to provide information technology software and consulting. Combining high-level consulting with hands-on technical delivery, Serrao guides, leads and participates in activities throughout all phases of Memex projects.
