US Visas Vulnerable to Insider Threat, IG Says – HSToday
Systems that issue US visas to foreign visitors and residents remain too vulnerable to disgruntled or criminal employees and contractors at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the DHS inspector general warned recently.
Although US Citizenship and Immigration Services (UCIS) has taken some steps to mitigate the risk of insider threats, the agency could do much more, said the IG office in a report, Examining Insider Threat Risk at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The DHS IG turned to the Computer Emergency Response Team at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., to conduct inspections and to draft the report due to CERT’s cybersecurity expertise.
