Cybersecurity Research Bill Goes to Markup: CQ Homeland Security
A House Science and Technology subcommittee will mark up draft legislation that would require the main federal agencies responsible for cybersecurity research to develop a joint strategic plan.“Computer technology changes very quickly, and we need to make sure that the federal government stays ahead of the criminals,” said Daniel Lipinski, D-Ill., chairman of the Research and Science Education Subcommittee, which will take up the draft bill Wednesday.
“This legislation requires the three main agencies that fund cybersecurity research — the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security — to cooperate in developing a long-term R&D plan that is anticipatory instead of reactive,” Lipinski said.
