GOP Maneuvers for Floor Vote on Transfer of Guantanamo Detainees – CQ Today
House Republicans are prepared to force a symbolic floor vote on the Obama administration’s decision to send five detainees suspected of terrorism to stand trial in New York City.
GOP lawmakers want to offer a procedural motion on the fiscal 2010 Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill (HR 2847) that would instruct House conferees to seek a provision barring the transfer of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others, according to House Republican aides.
Republicans said Democrats are delaying a formal conference on the bill because of the prospective motion, which would be offered during the process of appointing conferees.
