Are airport security checks redundant? – Aviation Week
BA’s chairman Martin Broughton has caused a storm by suggesting that airport security checks are completely redundant.
Speaking at the annual Airport Operators Association conference in London yesterday, Broughton said there was “no need to ‘kowtow’ the Americans every time they wanted to bolster security on U.S. bound flights”.
Blaming the U.S. for creating inconsistencies in security measures such as the removal of footwear at security, he said: “America does not do internally a lot of the things they demand that we do. We shouldn’t stand for that. We should say, ‘we’ll only do things which we consider to be essential and that you Americans also consider essential’.
