Much attention and alarm has been lavished on extreme Islamist rhetoric that inspires young Muslims to acts of violence and jihad. It’s the focus of considerable attention in the counterterror and homeland security communities, which are trying to find ways to defeat it. But with the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), it’s time to take a closer look at the domestic rhetoric that might be driving impressionable American citizens to violent extremism.
