All eight major DHS procurement shops buy detection equipment but they do not coordinate these purchases, contributing to lost opportunities to save money through bulk purchasing, a lack of standardization among detectors, and even challenges keeping inventory of the equipment, noted the IG report, DHS Department-wide Management of Detection Equipment.
