A new poll by the Pew Research Center indicates surprisingly low approval among Americans for the new president’s handling of the war on terror.
While Pew categorizes support for President Obama’s policies on terror at a “majority,” it is only a majority in the sense that more American approve than disapprove. Support for the president’s terror policies stand at only 50 percent. Even fewer approve of the president’s decision to close Gitmo, with 46 percent saying they support his decision.
As might be expected, the country also remains deeply divided over warrantless wiretapping. Fifty percent of those polled say that they think it is okay to monitor the telephone calls and email messages of suspected terrorists withour a court order; 45 percent do not think it is okay.
