TSA Misses Key Steps to Secure Surface Transportation – HS Today

As rail systems worldwide have suffered terrorist attacks, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has developed a federal strategy for securing US mass transit systems, congressional investigators recently reported, but the agency should take further critical steps to help protect those systems.

TSA should complete an assessment of risks to US mass transit systems and then improve its sharing of security technology information with the private sector to address security gaps, recommended the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in a July 24 report titled “Transportation Security: Key Actions Have Been Taken to Enhance Mass Transit and Passenger Rail Security, but Opportunities Exist to Strengthen Federal Strategy and Programs.”
