Brennan Lays Out Counterterrorism Vision – CQ Homeland Security

A top White House official on Thursday enunciated an Obama administration counterterrorism philosophy that mixed forceful action against al Qaeda now with broader actions to battle violent extremists in the future.

John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, said in a speech at a Washington think tank that Obama rejects an “absolutist” approach, instead favoring a policy that is “nuanced, not simplistic. Practical, not ideological.”
