The random tests, which are done both at security checkpoints as well as inside concourses as passengers board planes the gate, started locally this month. Transportation Security Administration officials say they have only had about six positive tests so far – all of which turned out to be false alarms.
“I wouldn’t want to put all our trust in these new technologies, but we have to keep changing the game on the bad guys,” said Asa Hutchinson, former DHS undersecretary for border and transportation security, who now works as a private security and legal consultant in Arkansas. “We’ve got to keep them off guard, and this is another way of doing it.”
