Feds: Michigan-based religious militia group plotted to kill cops – Detroit Free Press

A tense standoff that ended with the arrest of a ninth member of a multistate Christian militia Monday night capped the end of a three-day raid that had federal and state authorities combing rural areas along the state line.

Joshua M. Stone of Clayton was arrested in Hillsdale County just after 8 p.m., a day after authorities say he took up hiding in a former militia training area about 2 miles from Wheatland Church in Wheatland Township, said Andrew Arena, head of the Detroit FBI office.

Stone is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Detroit at 1 p.m. today.

Federal authorities say the 21-year-old was a member of a militia group known as Hutaree, or Christian warrior, that plotted to kill a police officer sometime in April and hide homemade bombs along the funeral processional route in hopes of taking out scores of others.
