Security Debrief’s Ron Marks notes that if the political environment doesn’t change, then the FBI is in a position of having to use all tools available to avoid being criticized for having “failed” should any terror event occur.
“The bottom line here is that the FBI is in a position, certainly in Washington, where they can’t make a mistake,” Marks said. “There is no give here. If the FBI were to let someone through and they were to be involved with a bombing or some kind of action, there would be hell to pay,” he said. The end result, however, is more scrutiny for members of the Muslim community unless they raise concerns about it, Marks said.
